Kano?? KANA!!!
Sunday, January 21, 2007

This year, I am going to start looking for a job SERIOUSLY. Last year was my rest year, this time I mean business. Because of my H4 Visa (dependent of Hoen who holds an H1B Working Visa), I can only legally work in the US if a company sponsors me, which means that I can only apply to big companies who are more likely capable of sponsoring an employee. I have applied to 6 companies in all. Some of them are upfront and they ask you for your visa status on the first page of their screening. Some try to feel you in first before asking the big Q.

West Corporation is this CRM company that also offers Conferencing Services and Products. I applied January 15, I got a call to take an exam the next day. They said if I passed it, I'd do an interview right after. Since the call was rather last minute, I had to reschedule for tomorrow and they gladly agreed. So I take several Aptitude Tests just to resharpen my tools and walked in their HR office wearing smart clothes despite the rigidly snowy weather. I took the test, indeed I passed it and this guy at HR was ready to set me up for an interview. Good thing Little Miss Smart in me decided to ask him if they did go through my letter which clearly stated that I needed sponsorship. He flips to the page with my cover letter, reads it for the first time (I then just realized) and told me that he would go and ask the director what to do. He disappears for 5 minutes then came back to tell me that they don't do sponsorship anymore and da da da.

What pisses me off is that I have tried the whole HR thing and the first thing I used to do was read their cover letter and go through the applicants' resumes and look for anything special and unique. They obviously did the opposite, reading my resume for the first time right in front of me. They wasted my time but they won't mar my hopes. I will still keep on trying and the next time I encounter an unprofessional screening process, I just might leave a word or two for them to think about.

Tuo kang tanan Kano tarong? Dili noh! Naa sad gyu'y mga hanggaw ug walay klaro!
